Western Church resembled that of treacherous Judah, whose guilt was even more unpardonable than that of backsliding Israel.

Roman Catholicism By Lorraine Boettner Chapter XVII By What Moral Standard?

James Japan avatarPosted on April 27, 2024 by James ArendtApril 28, 2024

One of the strong contrasts between Protestantism and Roman Catholicism is found in the moral codes. In Protestantism this code is taken directly from the Bible.

Roman Catholicism By Lorraine Boettner Chapter XIII Ritualism

Roman Catholic people have to struggle with ritualism and superstition, forms and ceremonies which impress the eye but deaden the soul to spiritual truth.

Of the Catholic Priesthood Called Holy Orders – By Martin Luther

Of this sacrament the Church of Christ knows nothing; it was invented by the church of the Pope. It not only has no promise of grace, anywhere declared, but not a word is said about it in the whole of the New Testament. Now it is ridiculous to set up as a sacrament of God that which can nowhere be proved to have been instituted by God. Not that I … Continue reading →

Of Matrimony – By Martin Luther

It is not only without any warrant of Scripture that matrimony is considered a sacrament, but it has been turned into a mere mockery by the very same traditions which vaunt it as a sacrament. Let us look a little into this. I have said that in every sacrament there is contained a word of divine promise, which must be believed in by him who receives the sign; and that … Continue reading →

Two years in the Philippines

June 4th, 2025. Two years ago, June 4th, 2023, Tess and I moved from Guam to the Philippines. It’s been a wonderful two years living in the beautiful countryside near the sea in a small village. The Philippines is a poor country where half of the households don’t own a refrigerator, but food is abundant. Nobody goes hungry.

I finished today my project of creating  a PDF file of R. W. Thompson’s insightful book The Papacy And The Civil Power Click on the link to download it. It’s only 1.8 megabytes in size compared to the copy on archive.org which is 39 megabytes.

Pope Leo XIII On His Authority

See The Papacy Is The Antichrist – By Rev. J. A. Wylie

Thoughts about the American Pope

The first ever American to become Pope, Robert Francis Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV, reminded me of a quote from The Papacy And The Civil Power – Chapter I. which I posted on this website:

“Pope Gregory XVI., some years ago, uttered the saying, “Out of the Roman States, there is no country where I am pope, except the United States,”…Read More

In all the countries professedly Roman Catholic, the Church was restricted and hampered in what were asserted to be its rights, on account of its close alliance with despotism; while in this country (the USA), owing to the liberality of our institutions, it is “legally free,” and is left without the interference of the law, to the uninterrupted pursuit of its ecclesiastical policy. Manifestly, it is because the nations of Europe, hitherto Roman Catholic, have taken away from “the vicar of God” the power to subordinate the laws of the State to the canon laws of the Church, which have been constructed with sole reference to papal supremacy, that the hope of rebuilding this power in the United States has been excited.” (End of quote.)

Another point is the significance of the name Leo. It was Leo X who, in 1521, excommunicated Martin Luther. Does the name indicate a possible agenda by Robert Prevost to totally crush Protestantism in America? Could he do that when Americans have First Amendment protection that guarantees freedom of religion? Time will tell.

The signing of the Constitution of the Beast of Revelation 13?

signing of the EU constitution

On 29 October 2004, 53 senior political figures from the 25 member states of the European Union signed a treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe. The ceremony took place in the ornate surroundings of the Palazzo dei Conservatori in the heart of ancient Rome where the original treaty establishing the Common Market was signed 47 years previously. Behind them is a statue of Pope Leo X. I think it’s significant that area with Leo X in the background was chosen to sign the EU Constitution because Leo X was the Pope who in January 1521 excommunicated Martin Luther.
