To crush all opposition, Queen Mary began a reign of terror, with over 300 Protestants being executed. She died at age 42 (she was beheaded), having reigned only five years, 1553- 1558. But that five years, fixed forever in the minds of the English people, out of fear and dread, if for nothing else, to hate and be wary of everything that was Roman Catholic.
